People will come...
You know, I was thinking about the movie Field of Dreams, and more specifically the scene below the other day. Ray has Mark yapping in his ear about how the bank will foreclose on his property and that he was a fool for making the ball field in the middle of good farm land. Ray can see the old players and listens to Terence explain that baseball has been a constant throughout American history.
I was thinking of this because it's what we need more of: faith and doing what you feel is right. Sometimes you have to abandon all rationality and do what you know deep down will be fulfilling. Breaking free of our responsibilities, our logical thought, our strictly regimented lives and acting on pure impulse and faith is what our society needs every once in a while. Stop being and just be.
It's hard to do, I know. Societal and normative pressures of everyday life keep you scraping at an endless life of needs, "have tos" and "gotta get dones." Be abstract in thought once in a while. Just say whatever good thing you've been thinking of your wife lately. Be goofy with your kids. Ask whatever crazy question you have in class that you normally don't ask. Yell "I love you" in public.
If you have something you have been wanting to do for a long time, but could never find time for it--do it! Ray did. He abandoned what was being pelted into his head and did what he felt was good and right inside. People came.
